The essentials
You own your journal content. Selff gives you a personal license to use the app, stores content locally, and cannot recover deleted entries. Resetting a forgotten PIN erases the local journal. Selff supports reflection and relaxation; it is not medical care, therapy, crisis support, or an emergency service.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Your Internet Fitness Co. LLC (“Selff,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They apply when you access the Selff app or selff.space. By using either, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or website.
If you download Selff through Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If these Terms conflict with that agreement, the Apple agreement controls to the extent required for your App Store license.
2. Who may use Selff
You must be legally able to consent to these Terms in your location. If you are not old enough to enter a binding agreement, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you. Selff is a general-audience reflection tool and is not designed specifically for children.
3. Your license
Subject to these Terms and the App Store license rules, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Selff on Apple devices you own or control for personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse engineer, bypass security, interfere with operation, or use Selff in violation of law, except where a restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
4. Your content
You retain ownership of journal entries, audio, photos, scans, drawings, and other content you create or import. Selff does not claim a license to use that content because the app does not transmit it to us. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to record or store content involving other people and for complying with consent, privacy, copyright, and recording laws.
5. Local storage and loss
Selff stores journal data locally and does not provide a Selff account, cloud sync, or recovery service. Removing the app, erasing local data, resetting a forgotten PIN, losing or damaging a device, or changing backup settings can permanently remove content. Ordinary Apple device backups may include app data depending on your settings, but Apple, not Selff, controls those backups. You are responsible for your device, passcode, Apple backup choices, and any copies you choose to preserve.
6. Permissions and availability
Some journal modes need microphone, speech recognition, camera, or Face ID access. Choosing an existing image uses Apple’s system photo picker, so Selff does not request broad Photo Library access. No-phoning needs Motion & Fitness access to use on-device motion readings while it is open and notice when the iPhone has been set down. You can decline or revoke a permission, but the related feature may not work. On-device transcription depends on Apple hardware, language support, and speech assets. If it is unavailable, Selff may save the recording without a transcript. Features may also vary by device, iOS version, or region.
7. Wellness limitation and emergencies
Selff is a reflection and relaxation tool. It does not provide medical or mental-health advice, diagnosis, treatment, therapy, clinical monitoring, crisis response, or emergency services.
Do not rely on Selff to make health or safety decisions. If you believe you or someone else may be in danger, contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis resource immediately. Consult a qualified professional for medical or mental-health questions.
8. Website and third-party services
The website may link to Apple, Vercel, Google, or other independent services. Their terms and privacy practices apply to their services. We are not responsible for third-party content, availability, or practices. A link does not imply endorsement of every statement or service on another site.
9. Selff ownership
Selff, the website, software, visual design, wordmark, and materials we provide are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer those rights to you. Feedback you voluntarily send may be used to improve Selff without obligation to you, but do not include private journal content in feedback.
10. Changes and discontinuation
We may update, suspend, or discontinue a feature or the app, including to protect security, comply with law, or improve the product. We may update these Terms and will post the new effective date. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide notice where required. Continuing to use Selff after an effective update means you accept the revised Terms to the extent allowed by law.
11. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Selff and the website are provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not promise that content can always be recovered or that every feature will work on every device or language. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so they may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Your Internet Fitness Co. LLC and its owners, employees, and contractors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or loss of data, use, goodwill, or profits arising from Selff or the website. Our total liability for claims relating to Selff will not exceed the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid us for Selff during the twelve months before the claim. These limits do not apply where law forbids them, including liability that cannot lawfully be limited and mandatory consumer guarantees.
13. Governing law and disputes
California law governs these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory law in your home jurisdiction gives you additional rights. Courts located in Los Angeles County, California will have jurisdiction over disputes that are not required to be heard elsewhere. Nothing here removes rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law.
14. General terms
If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited only as much as necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, reorganization, or sale. These Terms and the applicable Apple license are the complete agreement about your use of Selff.
